Ballet, pointed or Mary Jane
Round-toe ballet flats are the softest and most casual. Pointed-toe flats sharpen an outfit and suit tailored trousers. Mary Janes add a strap that keeps the shoe secure and reads a little more dressed. Mesh and embellished flats are the current evening alternative to heels.
Fit
Flats should hold the heel snugly without slipping. Leather flats stretch a little with wear; satin and mesh do not, so order true to size in those. If a pair feels tight across the toe, a day or two of wear usually settles it.
