Picking a loafer
A smooth leather penny loafer is the most timeless and works with jeans, tailoring and skirts. Chunky lug-sole loafers add attitude and balance cropped trousers and mini skirts. Heeled loafers give a 3–5 cm lift and replace a court shoe at work. Suede loafers look softer and suit autumn.
Sizing and break-in
Loafers should feel snug at first because leather stretches with wear; a slightly tight loafer becomes a perfect one, while a loose loafer only gets looser. Thin socks or no-show socks help during the first few wears.
